Jeff Turnbough Seven Billion People
Just recently the world population reached seven billion. When I was born 56 years ago, there were 2.7 billion people on planet earth. How many people shared the planet when you came into the world? Check it out here.
Lots of articles appeared concerning this phenomenon, each revealing the value of a particular perspective. Some sound alarm at a burgeoning and overcrowded planet. Others are concerned about the environment or the possibilities of sustaining so many people. Will there be enough fuel or natural resources? How will we feed so many people? Is the earth's environment fragile and therefore possibly incapable of handling so many people? To be sure, a growing population is something about which we should give consideration. Watch this video.
When you hear of a growing population, what comes to your mind? How do your values influence your perspective? As a follower of Christ, His words resound anew: "Go into all the world and make disciples of all the nations." Or, "this gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations."
From a Kingdom perspective, with every person born (250 every minute), with every passing moment, our responsibility increases. At the same time, with a growing population, opportunities increase. Every soul born on earth, everyone who ever lives and dies, all people of all cultures are important to God. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in him, will not perish, but have eternal life."
We want to be a part of God's initiative to touch every person on the planet with the Good News of His love and forgiveness. Today, with seven billion people alive in our world, the opportunities are greater than ever before. Join with us as we dedicate ourselves to this task.
