E-TEAM Brazil News Archive 2007 Elementary School presentation and other things on Friday
Friday morning, at 7:00 A.M. (in the morning) we had a presentation at an elementary school that is about three blocks from the 1st church in Campinas. After that presentation, we had three more throughout the day at the same school. After the last one, the director invited us to have afternoon coffee and treats with her.
When we do a presentation at a school, we typically do the following:
Introduce ourselves and tell where we're from, ages, etc.
Sing some American folk songs
Perform some illusions with a gospel/moral message
Sing two worship choruses, partly in Portuguese
Perform our mime
Our mime, titled "The Family", tells the story of a happy family that suffers from several tragedies when sin enters. Then, the family is restored through the power of Christ. When we conclude the mime, Br. Kenneth Eagleton quizzes the students to make sure they understood the symbology of the mime. Br. Eagleton makes a spiritual application, telling the students that Christ is able to heal and restore their families, if they are experiencing the kinds of problems that the mime tells about.
We've had many positive comments from school administrators and parents who have been present about how needed and how appropriate the message of our presentation is to the schools. One of the school directors invited Br. Eagleton to come back and make other presentations with youth from the 1st church in Campinas.
Between presentations, the girls on the team played soccer with some of the girls from the 1st church at a local park. There were no guys allowed, but by all accounts a great deal of fun was had.
Today is Haylee's (17th) birthday, and we had a party for her this afternoon. One of our hosts baked a huge, gorgeous chocolate cake, and also made chocolate candies. Several of the young people from the 1st church joined us to celebrate.
Tonight, we have a presentation at a state university in Campinas.
