E-TEAM Brazil News Archive 2007 Inviting people to Jesus

June 24th, 2007

After some cultural and site-seeing activites on Saturday morning, the team spent Saturday afternoon in a neighborhood near the newest Free Will Baptist mission work in Campinas, Ouro Verde. The Ouro Verde mission church was planted by the Sao Jose church. As part of their outreach to the community, the Ouro Verde church showed the Jesus Film oudoors in a neighborhood near the church on Saturday evening. Church members from Sao Jose and Ouro Verde spent Saturday morning going throughout part of the neighborhood inviting people to come and see the film. Invitations were handed out with the film details on one side, and a thorough explanation of the plan of salvation on the other. In the afternoon, the team joined these church members and coverd the rest of the neighborhood, inviting people to come and see the film.

After we finished the entire neighborhood, we all gathered at a church-member's home (in the neighborhood) for dinner, and then watched the film (outside, in Portuguese) afterward. The pastor of Ouro Verde said the response exceeded his expectations. When the film ended, church-members circulated through the crowd, asking people for their names and addresses so they could contact them afterward. About thirty people provided their contact information. By noon on Sunday, the pastor had already visited many of these people, and, while visiting, encountered many other people in the neighborhood who had seen the film, but had not provided their contact information. The plan is to start small Bible study groups with the objective of leading people to Christ through the neighborhood groups.
