E-TEAM Chicago News Archive 2010 Final Preparations
Tonight is the kickoff for Northwest Community Church's Veggie Tales Adventures! We are on our final push to make the last preparations for tonight and the rest of the week. Decorations-complete. Registration-in the computer. Church-cleaned. We are now moving around furniture and fixing up the outside of the church. Name tags still need to be made, but that is next on the agenda. I think i speak for everyone on the team when I say that we are filled with excitement and anticipation for these upcoming nights with the kids. What is unique about Northwest's "VBS" is that, first, it is not VBS, but VTA (Veggie Tales Adventures). It is not called VBS because the church is not trying to reach kids that already go to church and have heard the wonderful news of Jesus Christ's sacrifice for us; rather, they are trying to reach the children and families that have not yet heard about Him. They specifically make sure that the kids they register are not in church or go to a non-Christian church. This church and its people want to reach those who need to hear about Jesus, so all the children that come to VTA are not saved, and it is our mission to plant seeds in the kids as well as their families. This is our goal, and we are all excited to see how God works in these kids lives during this week.
When we have had some down time (Saturday and Sunday afternoons), Pastor David has taken us downtown to experience its life and culture. We have visited Millennium Park (yes, we saw the bean and the face fountains if you know about those) as well as the Navy Pier. We have walked through the city, and ate deep dish Chicago pizza (Saturday) and fun diner food (Sunday). Everyone is having a good time working and site seeing with Pastor David and Gowdy (the youth pastor if you don't know).
