E-TEAM France News Archive 2009 Trip to Normandy

June 23rd, 2009

Today, we were on American soil. We went to Omaha Beach, Normandy, France with some of the teenagers from the Saint Nazaire church. This property actually belongs to the Americans and we are the ones who keep up the cemetery and this part of the beach.

It was just amazing to see where the invasion was 65 years ago. You can still see the results of the bombs that the Americans fired on the Germans. There are also still remains from German bunkers, that were built before the invasion. It is so incredible to say that we got to walk on Normandy beach.

We also went to see Mont Saint Michel, which used to be a monastery and a small village that was built in 900 A.D. It is built on an island in the middle of the ocean. The tide comes in every 6 hours and stays for one hour, then leaves again and it is no longer an island. The view is absolutely breath-taking. This abbey is older than our established nation. It is mind boggling to think about it.

We had a very long, but wonderful day. The students jumped right in with the French youth group and treated them like they belonged to us. This is just another way, how we are Christ's hands extended around the world. We are tired from our activities from today, but God is good and He will provide rest. Until next time!

I have included pictures of Normandy and Mont Saint Michel. Enjoy!
