E-TEAM Hokkaido News Archive 2007 E-Team Hokkaido Plays Golf
On Wednesday morning we got up and went to Ai No Sato Church to pass out flyers in the neighborhood about the upcoming evangelistic outreach activity with Hokkaido Fighters baseball team Manager Trey Hillman. After passing out the flyers we went back to the church and had a class in "shuji" - Japanese caligraphy. We each did several writing of our own. We performed our mime and sang our songs and then enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by the ladies of the church.
In the afternoon we enjoyed "park" golf - a cross between golf, putt-putt and croquet. We won't list the scores for you - but you can imagine what they were like!
That night we drove up to Mt. Moiwa and viewed all of Sapporo from the mountain top. The night lights were breathtaking!
On Thursday morning we went downtown Sapporo to see a Shinto shrine. We were able to witness the priest "blessing" some automobiles. He performed a prayer for "safe driving" and keep evil spirits out of the car. We saw children as well as elderly people paying their money, clapping their hands to get their "gods" attention, and praying to false gods. This gave all of us a sense of just how much Japan needs to hear about the one true God! We then had our first subway ride to downtown Sapporo where we went to the JR Tower - a very tall tower in downtown Sapporo. We rode the elevator up to the 38th floor and were able to get a fantastic view of the city. After that we shopped and shopped and shopped! We definitely spent some of our money today - we bought things such as a golf club, a hat, yukata, swords, t-shirts, ball caps, and bunches of other things!
After shopping we went to a girls school dorm for a devotional service. We sang, performed our mime and gave testimonies. They fed us some delicious desserts. Then we went back to the church for a delicious spaghetti supper (prepared by our missionary Shannon Little) - Thanks Shannon!
Tomorrow brings another day filled with many activities - our time here is getting short! We can't believe how fast the days are going by.
