E-TEAM Mexico News Archive 2009 Better Late than Never
I want to start out by saying I am sorry. I wish we could have updated sooner, but our schedule has not allowed. We have been working so hard that it seems like every free moment should be taken up with a ciesta. I will do my best to give you a quick update of what we have been doing then let the pictures say the rest. We have been working on several work projects: some students helping finish one of the new dorms for married couples here on campus, some turning the old driveway into a cactus garden, and some building a chicken coop. The students have shown themselves to be hard workers; they have also learned to love the shade because the sun is hotter here than what most of them are used to: or like I told one student: "We're not in in Kansas anymore." We have also assisted with some out reach: on Thursday we handed out invitations to a VBS we are doing next week. We split up into several groups, each group having a Mexican with us to do the hard work (that would be speaking Spanish). Today we went to another community where there is a church and passed out information about the church: this time there was not a Mexican with each group, if any Spanish was going to be done, it would have to be done by us.
There have also been some things just for fun: We have gone into town a few times for ice cream and the like, and we spent one evening on the beach where we cooked out. The students enjoyed the time on the beach: I think it had something to do with the fact that it felt about 20 degrees cooler.
Tonight we have an activity with a lot of teenagers from area churches. Tomorrow we are hoping to sleep in a bit, then have some sight seeing and other cultural experiences.
Your students talk about home a good bit, but not too much...They are enjoying each others company, and enjoying the ministry here in Mexico.
Until next time.
