E-TEAM Spain News Archive 2008 Fun in Spain
We didn't have much time to update last time so here is a little more info.
Saturday, we spent part of the morning at the center in Alpadrete setting up for the party. After getting ready for the party, we got to go to a music heritage festival in one of the nearby towns. Our lunch was at the homes of three families that live in Alpadrete. Some of the team was fortunate enough to be with a family that spoke fluent English and ate pasta while others spoke no English and ate blood sausage. That night was the children's party at the center. It went very well, and while we didn't have as many people as we expected it was still a huge success because there were many new families.
Sunday morning was spent in church. Half of the team went to the Villalba church to sing and give their testimonies. The other half stayed in Alpedrete and did a puppet show. After church we all met in Villalba and had lunch with some of the youth in the church then spent some time getting to know them. We caught a train and then subway into Madrid for the bullfight. Some of us were very interested, but others did not enjoy it very much at all. For supper, we got a little taste of America when we ate at a Burger King.
Monday morning we took a train back into Madrid and got to see some of the famous sites in the city. The girls were very happy because they got to do some shopping. We walked a lot but enjoyed the day. Our lunch was probably one of the highlights. We each had salad, cheese, pan, half of a chicken, and then desert. We all felt the day was very worthwhile not only because we had fun, but we also got a unique look into some aspects of Spanish culture when we toured the cathedral and saw the royal palace.
Today began with a trip to an open air market in Villalba. We were each give a little bit of money and told to find a certain thing and buy it. It was very interesting for some with us not able to speak the same language but all eventually succeeded. We had about an hour of time then, when we were able to browse the shops for anything that we might want to buy. Lunch was at the church with a couple of the missionaries and then setting up for a ministry that the church has every Tuesday night where they hand out food and clothing to some of the families in the area. We are now doing laundry and having some free time. Tonight we have a "cooking experience" and will learn how to make some traditional Spanish food.
We are having a blast and loving every minute of our time here. Our host missionaries are amazing and we love all of them: Anthony, Lea, Emily, and Marc Edgmon; Jeff and Susana Turnbough; and Matthew, Brooke, and Andrew Turnbough. Thanks for your prayers. We can't wait to see you but don't want to leave either. Below are some personal messages and then captions for our pictures.
