E-TEAM Spain News Archive 2008 Completing the Mission
Thursday provided us with a fun break from the busy schedule we have had so far. We enjoyed a day at Boca del Asno, a park in the mountains. We were able to go swimming in the creek and some of the girls were able to work on their tans. Lunch was a very nice picnic that we were able to enjoy with one of the local boys named Tareck. That night we watched only half of the semifinal game of the Eurocup because we lost satelite signal. Fortunately, we were able to tell when Spain would score a goal, because of the chears and fireworks in town.
Friday was VERY hot with a tempurature of 40 degrees; for you Americans, that's 104 degrees. We spent the day in Toledo where we toured an ancient Jewish synagogue and another cathedral complete with "holy" relic bones of ancient saints. Toledo is known for its swords from medieval to the present. That night, we ate dinner in several Spanish homes and interacted with our hosts.
Saturday we visited the historic city of Alcala de Henares with the oldest still active European university, started in 1293. Coincidentally this is also the town where the first FWB work began in Spain. We learned a lot about the history of the town from a local pastor who served as our tour guide. Alcala is the home of Isabella and Ferdinand's palace and also the home of Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote. We also enjoyed time to fellowship with the youth from the Villalba church later that night.
Today we witnessed the baptism of four new believers at a riverside baptism service. This is a very significant event for the Spanish FWB church. We shared a picnic meal with members of four different churches and performed our human video and sang a worship song in Spanish.
Shortly we will be packing to head back to America. All of us will treasure the memories and experiences we have shared together and with the Spanish people. Please pray for our safe journey as we leave for the airport at 3:30 Tuesday morning, arriving in Nashville at 6:00 pm. See you soon!
By the way, Spain just won the Eurocup in soccer!!!
