E-TEAM Spain News Archive 2009 Visit to Segovia

June 24th, 2009

Today we drove to Segovia (a city in the mountains). It was beautiful!!!!We visited a castle where Christopher Columbus met with Queen Isabella to ask for money for his journey to America. It was built in the 1200's. It was very interesting!
We were taking pictures outside the castle and one of our team leaders dropped the notebook full of notes over and it fell inside the garden. Of course, the garden is off limits to visitors so one of the missionraies, Sam McVay, had to use his expertise in Spanish to "beg" the security guard to go and get it... Which he did!!!!
It has now become a team joke, What happens in Spain, should stay in Spain-right???

Then we had a picnic in a park near the town. We had sandwiches, chips, our own home-made tortillias made last night, and fruit that was purchased at the open market yesterday.

After lunch, we went back into the city. We shopped, toured the city and saw some interesting churches, old buildings and the Roman Aqueduct that is still standing. It was amazing!!! We had a great day and got to see and enjoy some of God's creations.

Tonight, we had dinner with the Johnsons (Tim, Kristi, Alejandro and Ana). We were treated to barbequed ribs, macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, and bread. Ana and Alejandro was our waitor and waitress. They did an amazing job! We then watched the soccer game between Spain and US. It was hard pulling for the US being here but!!!!

Tomorrow, we will be at the Alpedrete Center helping prepare for VBS. Take care and may God bless you.
"Hasta Luego"-See you later.
