E-TEAM Tokyo News Archive 2009 Another Day in the Big City
Today was a bit more laid back than most, so it won’t take long to explain what we did. First we went to the Bailey’s English classes. Katrina and Kinley and Stef went with Ken Bailey to another class while the rest of us went with Judy to hers, which was at the Iriso church that we worked at last weekend. Dale and Sandra Bishop are teaching the former.
Judy’s group stopped by a shopping center on the way because we were early for class. I’ve decided this week that McDonald’s has really good soft swirl ice cream cones :) There were 4 women at the class and they all spoke English fluently so all we had to do was talk to them so they could practice. I think they enjoyed meeting us, and one of the ladies is going to have Kinley and Katrina spend a night at her house this coming Sunday. If I haven’t mentioned it yet, all of us are going to “home-stays” Sunday. Most of us are going in pairs, but Stef and Rebekah are going alone.
Ken’s group met at the Bishop's English class (Dale Bishop is also the pastor in the McDonald’s furlough.) They had 2 students but one left early. After we all finished with our classes the Baileys took us to a small Japanese cemetery to show us what those look like. The one we went to was entirely Buddhist. We learned that Japanese almost never bury a person whole, they must be cremated and placed on a shelf in the family gravesite with several other ancestors.
We didn’t stay there long, but headed to the Bailey’s church to work on folding tracks and stamping books that we will probably put in mailboxes later. We also did a mock-up of our rapidly approaching Dino party. Afterward we passed out flyers for the party then ate dinner. After dinner we spent a few hours doing laundry at a coin-op. I'm glad I finally have all fresh clothes! ;)
Thanks for keeping up with all our activities! We all miss our families but we’re also having a good time.
"The churches in the province of Asia send you greetings."
