Missionaries Bulgaria Tim and Lydia Awtrey What’s in this hotdog? (Part 4)

February 1st, 2012

Wednesday. Mornings on Wednesdays are times for correspondence and prayer. I try to use the morning before going to teach English to catch up on emails and spending time praying about people and direction. How can God use me today? Where can I be a person today that lives out the Good News? How can our church be the salt and light that is so desperately needed here? So, after some time writing and in prayer I’m off to the local high school. After classes I take part in an English club that was started by the Peace Corps. It is a group of college students that get together to practice their English. More than anything we need to reach these young, intelligent people for Jesus. We have a small group of students that meet for Bible study on Thursday nights, but they are only a small group among twelve thousand college students in Svishtov. It is my hope that as I build up trust with people in the English club that I will be able to speak the truth about Jesus in a way that they will understand. Bulgaria is slowly dying as its young people emigrate to the west to get away from the corruption that is prevalent everywhere. Bulgaria needs young people who are honest and have integrity. It is the only way Bulgaria will survive. And in a society that is totally corrupt only men and women who personally know the Creator of the Universe will be able to take a stand for righteousness and holiness. Pray that God will raise up more young people who love him more that the world around them.

After the English club I came home and met with a couple that is going to get married. This will be the first marriage that we have in our church. Hardly anyone in Bulgaria ever gets married anymore and it is great that this young couple wants to make stand for God by doing what is right. I have spent years discipling this young man and it makes me glad that he will be a husband and one day a father who trains up his family to love and serve God. This is the hope that Free Will Baptists have for Bulgaria; men and women living out the Gospel with integrity and purpose.
