Missionaries Japan Ken and Judy Bailey Biography
PRESENT MINISTRY
In July of 2005 the Baileys began focusing their energies on a preaching point in the city Kawagoe (close the the Kamifukuoka train station), a work they initiated in the Shiki area. In addition to leading weekly home Bible studies and Sunday worship services, they provide marriage counseling, lead discipleship classes, and teach English and Bible to children and adults.
The couple worked for three years with the Tokyo Team to establish a new church plant in the Sayamagaoka neighborhood. The Good News Chapel recently moved into a new storefront building.
They continue to be involved in the Iriso FWB Church where Ken served as pastor for eleven years. They have begun three preaching points they hope to see develop into new church plants: Higashi Yamato, Shiki, and Saitama.
CONVERSION
Ken, the son of William and Marie Bailey ( both deceased), was saved in Viburnum, Mo., at the age of 19. He accepted Christ on the way to the hospital following a motorcycle accident.
Judy, the daughter of Elmer and Gladys Turnbough, was saved under her father's ministry while just a child. She rededicated her life to Christ at the age of 21.
The Baileys committed their lives to the Lord and answered the call to the mission field during a missions retreat in 1977.
EARLY MINISTRY
While attending Free Will Baptist Bible College, the Baileys worked as directors of the children's church at Richland FWB Church in Nashville, Tenn. Judy also served as church pianist. Following graduation and prior to service in Japan, the Baileys moved from Nashville to Arlington, Ga., where Ken pastored the Arlington FWB Church.
Ken holds a B.A. from Free Will Baptist Bible College, and a M.A. in Intercultural Studies and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) from Wheaton College. He is currently enrolled in doctoral studies at Biola University.
During her youth, Judy was active in church music ministries and teaching church classes under the ministry leadership of her parents. Judy attended Pensacola Christian College, FWBBC, Ft. Wayne Bible College, and Liberty University.
Ken and Judy were appointed in August of 1982, the first couple to be appointed to Japan in nine years. They arrived in Tokyo in November 1983 and began two years of formal language study. Under the leadership of Fred and Evelyn Hersey, they assisted at the Adachi and Iriso Free Will Baptist churches in Tokyo. After furlough in 1987-88, the Baileys returned to Japan to work with the Iriso church. They remained for an extended term due to the lack of national leadership and missionary personnel.
CHILDREN
The Baileys have two children: Tracey and Benjamin. Both were born in Nashville, Tenn.
Tracey and her husband Dr. Jeremy Delamarter live with their three children in Belevue, Wash.
Benjamin graduated from Wheaton College in 2002, and returned to Tokyo to serve two and a half years as a short-term missionary. After receiving his Master's degree in TOESL, he returned to Japan in 2010 and is a professor at the University of Shizuoka in Japan.
