Missionaries Uruguay Molly Barker Biography
PRESENT MINISTRY
Molly Barker has served under the Board of Foreign Missions since April of 1964. She has maintained a supportive ministry in all the Uruguayan works. Molly teaches Sunday school, directs vacation Bible school for churches in the Rivera area, and assists the churches with Christmas programs. She also works with the woman's auxiliary ministry and is involved in visitation.
Since Molly is a registered nurse, she has a vital ministry with the sick in the churches. She is able to keep check on those who have chronic problems, and on doctor's orders she gives injections to those who need help. Often she provides transportation to the hospital or a doctor when necessary.
CONVERSION
Molly was converted at 12 years of age during a revival by Rev. J. C. Griffin at the First Free Will Baptist Church, Morehead City, N.C. During her high school years she felt God had some special work for her to do. Then, at Free Will Baptist Bible College she learned a great deal about missions, yielded her life to God, and answered His call.
EARLY MINISTRY
After her conversion, Molly actively served in her home church. Following Bible college training, she went to Mexico as a home missionary for two years. She returned to Nashville, Tenn. for nurses' training prior to her appointment to Uruguay in 1964. She departed for language study in Costa Rica in May of 1965.
Molly's first two terms on the field were filled by many of her current activities as well as a period as dean of women at the Bible institute in Jaboticabal, Brazil. She also taught health at the institute.
