Missionaries Panama Steve and Lori Torrison Biography
PRESENT MINISTRY
Steve and Lori Torrison were appointed as career missionaries to Panama in July 2004. Following a year of language school in San Jose, Costa Rica, they moved to Chitré, Panama, in April 2006. The Torrison's assist Stan and Brenda Bunch with the rapidly growing new church plant in Chitré. They are also involved in area studies to determine areas with the most need for future churches.
CONVERSION
As an eight-year-old, Steve was saved at church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He rededicated his life while in the U.S. Navy, and shortly thereafter felt called to preach. During his third year at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College in Moore, Okla., Steve specifically felt and surrendered to the call to the mission field.
Lori was saved at the age of five. After a moving sermon at church, she informed her parents "she wanted to get saved,” and knelt with them by the couch at home. Lori first felt the tug towards missions in seventh grade, but did not surrender to the call to missions until a student revival during her second year at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College.
EARLY MINISTRY
During their last year at Hillsdale FWB College, Steve and Lori worked part time every weekend at the Woodward FWB Church in Woodward, Okla. They were involved in visitation outreach, children's church and youth activities. Following graduation from Hillsdale, the couple moved to Woodward and worked full time with the church in much the same capacity. In addition, Steve provided music for the youth group and P.E. for the local Christian school. Lori worked at the local crisis pregnancy center during the week.
CHILDREN
Their daughter, Melanie Joyce, was born December 13.
